Without a general leading the team, it’s nigh on impossible to be successful.
This field of halves is as capable as any in Country Rugby League.
Led by a former NRL star and a former Western Division half, three of the No.7’s on this list are 22 or younger, holding the future of Group 10 rugby league in good stead.
THE CONTENDERS
Mat Stott (Mudgee Dragons): three tries, 10 goals, one field goal, 31 points, 10 games.
Hammered by some quarters after a terrible 0-5 start to 2013, Stott has helped the Dragons win six of the club’s next nine matches to still, incredibly, remain in the hunt for a place in the finals.
Scott Rosser (Orange Hawks): four tries, seven games.
The best player in Group 10 before a broken hand playing for Western Division halted the star No.7’s dominance on 2013. Will be a welcome return to Hawks’ backline come finals time.
Josh Howarth (Lithgow Workies): four tries, seven goals, 30 points, 12 games.
One of the surprise packets of 2013. Stepped into the halfback role for the defending premiers and has done so with aplomb. Excellent running game and one for the future for Workies.
Blake Fitzpatrick (Oberon Tigers): three tries 23 goals, 58 points, 10 games.
Helped guide the Tigers to the finals in the club’s first year back in premier league in 2012 and looks set to do the same again this year. Of the same ilk as Howarth and many other young halves being blooded; a genuine runner of the football.
Mick Sullivan (Orange CYMS): three tries, 10 games.
A two-time premiership winner and former Group 10 Player of the Year. Can be guilty of trying a little too hard for his side at times but holds all the keys to the fastest backline in Group 10. A genuine game-winner with an unmatched desire to succeed.
