It has been a regular experience from bush fires along the east coast of NSW and Queensland.
Contamination is the presence of an impurity, or some other undesirable thing that spoils, corrupts, infects, makes unfit, or makes inferior a material, physical body, natural environment or workplace.
The Good Book also notes that we can contaminate body and spirit, and as such to avoid or deal with all things that can affect our wellbeing.
If life is what you want, it is important to avoid or deal with contamination.
The Good Book reads in one place, as an exhortation as to what gives life; 'Purify yourself from anything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting a wholeheartedness out of reverence for God.'
For there are things we do and say that contaminate our well-being and relationships, our sense of connectedness and our core being.
It will be visible and not so pretty.
Contamination is like smoke in the eyes or like the experience of eating food that that is 'off' from the presence of harmful bacteria.
What I remember of these was once in India and another in Australia.
Both times there was telltale symptoms in my body from food poisoning.
Symptoms like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, weakness and headaches.
I stayed in bed for a number of days.
Life passed me by.
Drinking contaminated water is another obvious concern.
In India I even brushed my teeth with bottled water.
The use of light, ultraviolet (UV) light, as a disinfectant in water treatment system deals with most forms of harmful microorganisms.
Like this process, light or understanding is what we need to 'perfect life'.
It is about exposing ourselves to goodness and understanding (wisdom) including reverence for God.
