With CYMS needing a hero in the Royal Hotel Cup final, Dwyer stood up, and provided what was undoubtedly one of the best day-night performances Orange has ever seen - not bad for a bloke who wasn’t going to play cricket this season.
“Yeah, it was alright really,” Dwyer laughed.
“I’m a bit lost for words, it feels like a bit of a daydream really.”
Dwyer pummelled 66 off 33 balls, in which 50 came from boundaries, and scored his half century off just 17 balls. His tactic?
“There isn’t one, it’s just see ball, hit ball for me,” Dwyer laughed.
“I got lucky, which you need to be in Twenty20. But that’s the best way to play the game, be aggressive and hope it comes off. It did for me tonight, which I’m pretty pleased about.”
He then snared a five wicket haul - all but unheard of in Twenty20 cricket - to win his side the game, and its first Royal Hotel Cup title.
“It’s incredible,” he said.
“It was good to come out as an underdog, and not just put it to them but beat them.”
