DESPITE relatively small squadrons, Jets Swim Club and Kinross Wolaroi Swim Club both produced sterling results at the NSW Swimming Mountains and Plains Summer Championships last week.

The annual meet attracts the best swimmers in the region, stretching from Glenbrook in the east, Lake Cargelligo in the west and Rylstone and Cowra in the north and south respectively, with 15 different clubs, and 241 swimmers competing.
With just 27 and 20 competitors, the two clubs managed to finish fourth and second respectively on the overall pointscore after the two days of competition on Saturday and Sunday, February 6 and 7.
In comparison Glenbrook, who took out the championship, boasted a 44-strong team.
Of the Jets group, one of the most impressive swimmers was seven-year-old Thomas Pell in his debut meet.
Swimming in the nine and under boys’ 25 metre events, Pell just about scooped the pool by finishing first in three of his four events.
Millani Betts also made her competitive debut and at just six, she managed a third placing the girls’ nine and under 25m backstroke.
Ethan Crisp continued his dominant form by claiming a gold medal and two silver medals and also recording a 34 second personal best in the open male 800m freestyle, where he finished second.
Ten-year-old Olivia Wright was also strong, clocking nine personal best times from 10 events, including hitting her qualifying mark for the NSW Country Championships in her 50m freestyle race.
Elliot Tom, Rory Thornhill, Thomas Pell and Aaliyah Wright claimed six, eight, four and three podium finishes in their respective divisions, while Zac Lewis had an outstanding meet, clocking six personal best times from eight starts.
Kinross managed to bring home 80 individual medals, with Zara Grout, Oliver McLaughlin and Josie Gillham all claiming age championships in their respective divisions. Of the six relays the school contested, they brought home two gold medals and three silvers as well.
