Project manager, Stuart Black, confirmed the deliveries of the oversized turbine components commenced this week.
Arriving via the Castlereagh Highway, Goolma and Gillinghall Roads, the turbines were shipped in from all around the world – with components coming from Malaysia, Germany, China and Turkey into the Port of Newcastle before being transported by road for the final leg of the journey.
Due to the sheer size of the turbines, escorts have been arranged and traffic notices issued to advise surrounding townships and nearby properties of the special convoy.
“The tower sections were the first to arrive into site with each section weighing in excess of 55 tonnes and around 30m in length,” Mr Black said.
“These were followed by the turbine nacelle which is the power house of the wind turbine weighing in at 96 tonnes.
“The turbine blades are due to arrive later in the week with each blade measuring 63.7m and weighing in at 19 tonnes.”
The turbine transportation is set to continue until June, with multiple deliveries per week arriving between 10am and 2pm from Monday to Saturday.
Once completed, there will be 33 wind turbines on the site.
