While grade cricketers’ Christmas – Saturday itself – is a low chance of rain, nothing says ‘it’s cricket season’ like three days of heavy rain to flood outfields across Orange.
Games might still go ahead, but they’ll be soggy affairs if they do.
Forget rain dances or our Prime Minister’s prayers, what we had to do to end the drought sweeping the state was bring round one of the cricket season forward.
If cricket association presidents nation-wide could just reschedule round one in accordance to farmer’s rainfall needs, they’d be declared national heroes.
Orange has had 30 millimetres of rain in the 48 hours up to 9am Friday morning, and is a chance of rain for the rest of Friday.
The Central Western Daily has nothing against cricketers – many writers have been known to roll the arm over or have a hit – but we can only hope the rain continues.
Besides, the longer the start of the season is prolonged, the longer cricketers all over Orange can enjoy the false hope they can average 30 for the season.
