Superintendent Andrew Hurst has been announced as the new commander in charge of the Central North Police District, which includes Cobar, Bourke, Brewarinna, Nyngan, Walgett and other small country communities.

"I've inherited a really well-run command from the former commander and our district performance has been very good now for a long time," Superintendent Hurst said.
"My focus will be on establishing a strategic response to rural crime that will really focus on offenders, and there will also be an ongoing focus on domestic and family violence.
"Youth crime is an ongoing concern for numerous communities inside our district and the ongoing focus is for us to find new ways to divert youth from entering the criminal justice system which we know leads to poorer outcomes for them, their families and the community."
After he joined the police force in 1994, Superintendent Hurst spent the bulk of his career keeping regional communities safe and he started work as an inspector in Bourke in 2014.
Superintended Hurst has replaced Superintendent Greg Moore, who is now commander of the South Coast Police District.
"I was fortunate to be based in Bourke during a time of opportunity and experimentation in community-driven problem solving and social policy development," Superintendent Moore said.
"We had some impressive early social outcomes and crime reduction in Bourke and surrounding communities as a result, and it's something I would love to bring to the South Coast region."
